This term has been full of rich experiences and joyful learning in the Oak Room at St Philips Marsh Nursery School. The children have been settling into their key groups, building friendships and developing a strong sense of belonging—an important part of their personal, social and emotional development, as outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Our garden has been a hub of exploration, with children observing the seasonal changes as leaves turn colour and fall. They’ve collected natural treasures like conkers, acorns, pinecones, leaves and sticks, which have sparked imaginative play in the mud kitchen. Autumn colours have inspired creative painting activities, including the use of spray bottles to experiment with texture and technique.

Pumpkin is our vegetable of the month, and Claudia from The Children’s Kitchen has been working with our 3- and 4-year-olds to explore it in fun and engaging ways. Recently, the children had the opportunity to taste roasted butternut squash, encouraging curiosity about food and healthy eating.

Physical development has also been a focus, with children showing a keen interest in organising and participating in competitive sports games. From running races to beanbag target practice and basketball, they are not only developing coordination and motor skills but also learning about teamwork and leadership.
