We’ve received an urgent letter from Bristol City Council’s Deputy Director of Public Health regarding a recent measles outbreak in our area. Between January and May 2025, Bristol recorded 47 confirmed measles cases – more than any other area in England.
The letter strongly urges all parents and carers to ensure their children are up to date with MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccinations. Currently, 17% of five-year-olds in Bristol are not protected due to missed vaccinations.
Key points:
- MMR vaccine is safe, effective, and free on the NHS
- Two doses provide 99% protection against measles
- It’s never too late to get vaccinated
- Pork-free vaccine (Priorix) is available upon request
Please read the full letter below for complete details on symptoms, what to do if you suspect measles, and how to book vaccinations. If you’re unsure about your child’s vaccination status, check their red book or contact your GP practice.
