All The Seeds!
In Fir Class recently the children have been showing a big interest in learning about how things grow. We have been planting many different things from tiny seeds to big beans. It was very hard to believe that a plant could grow from such a tiny seed!
We learnt that plants need water, sunshine and time to grow. We also learnt about roots and how they grow in the ground.
We have been learning to take care of plants by helping to water them daily and check they are okay. We have planted some sun flowers and we can’t wait to see which one will grow the tallest.
We used pots and gardening tools to scoop up the soil, once our plant pots were full we carefully pushed a little seed down into the soil and gave it a little water.
Gardening is such a wonderful experience for the children as it encourages sensory exploration, the textures of the soil. Is it crumbly, wet, sticky?
Do you grow vegetables at home?
Which ones do you grow?

Using Shapes to Creates Structures
The children in Fir class have also been interested in using different shapes to create new structures.
The rectangle, square and triangle magnetic shapes fit together really easily and they have been making new shapes, patterns and models with them.
Making structures that are tall and sometimes a bit wobbly or laying them out on the floor in interesting ways.
Playing with the shapes on the light box brings more excitement to the children’s models and patterns, as the shapes glow making their work shine brightly with pretty colours.
Sometimes the children use their own creative ideas to plan what they want to construct, or sometimes they work as a team to create something together.
Sometimes there is no plan and it is just interesting to explore the shapes and see what happens.
