Building with Blocks
The children in Beech class have been building lots with the classroom bricks.
They have built towers and made enclosures for people and animals. To link in with this interest, our story is the three little pigs.
Some children have been saying the reoccurring parts, such as, “Little pig… Little pig… Let me come in” and “Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin”.
Some have even been acting this out in the big house in the garden.

Singing Our Favourite Songs
The children have been singing Five Little Ducks Went Swimming One Day. We have been using props for this so the children have a visual representation. This is a fabulous opportunity for them to learn some mathematical counting skills.
They have also been dancing and singing to their favourite songs from Frozen, dressing up as Elsa and dancing to the music on a stage made from wooden blocks.
Observing Photos in Our Environment
Children have been noticing themselves and their peers in photographs in our environment.
They have been spotting photos on the walls around the setting, on our coat pegs, and in photos taken around the nursery school.
When children find their photo in the childcare environment, they feel special. Seeing themselves with their friends and caregivers makes them feel part of the group and adds to their sense of belonging.
When photos are displayed with labelling or documentation, children will learn to connect them to written print. Many children who are not yet speaking can use photos to share their message.
Out in the Garden
Outside, children have been using various-sized bikes. Some are learning how to use their feet to push their bikes around, while others are learning how to use their feet to peddle.
