To fit in with our themes of ‘changes’ and ‘patterns’, the children learnt about the life cycle of the butterfly. The children observed them grow from tiny caterpillars to large caterpillars and change into pupa (chrysallis). At this stage we transferred them to special butterfly nets and waited patiently until they were ready to emerge as beautiful butterflies. When they had opened and fluttered their wings we knew they were ready to fly. We gathered in the garden to release them.
