Our exciting first adventure to Forest School

On Wednesday 25th June we had our first adventure to Forest School.  On arrival the children were able to do butterfly drawings as registration took place.  We then had a ‘welcome time’ of songs and a game, followed by the important head count and ‘buddy allocation’. One adult was appointed to 1, 2 or 3 children.  Each child donned their ‘high viz’ jackets and name labels and then Janine, our Forest School Co-ordinator, arrived.

After introductions, we all trooped off to the woods, each child having been given a mirror to experience their journey i.e. viewing the forest canopy or even their nose from a different perspective!  On arrival our first activity was ‘scatter’, a game based on ‘hide and seek’ when the children had to return at the sound of a whistle.  Next the children were able to create their own paint using earth and water and make mud paintings.  Some children then chose to make a den or a construction with sticks that they had collected.

Next after a tidy up it was ‘follow my leader’ to the shelter in Sunshine Corner.  After hand washing and a drink we were eager for lunch in the glade.  The morning had quickly passed so after a few stories it was time to wend our way back the Spielman Centre where parents were waiting to collect their children after a wonderful and stimulating morning.

A big thank you to our volunteers, staff, Janine (our co-ordinator) but especially to our children who were amazing!  Looking forward to the next Forest School on 9th July.  [Written by Mrs Curry]
