Minibeasts Galore!
This term, the children in Oak Room have been immersed in the fascinating world of minibeasts! Our young explorers have been venturing into the garden, eagerly searching under logs and stones to discover the tiny creatures that call our outdoor space home.

This hands-on exploration supports several key areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, particularly Understanding the World, as children learn to observe and make sense of their natural environment. The minibeast hunts have sparked rich conversations about different creatures, their habitats, and how we can care for living things – all vital aspects of developing children’s knowledge and respect for the natural world. The children have been taking responsibility for a special tank of snails in the classroom, allowing them to learn to care for other living creatures, taking turns checking the snails’ wellbeing and ensuring they have everything they need to thrive.
Budding Gardeners
Our Oak Room children have embraced their role as caretakers of our nursery garden this year.

We were delighted to welcome Claudia from The Children’s Kitchen recently, who helped our enthusiastic gardeners plant crops, including raspberries, sweetcorn, squash, and French beans. The children listened attentively to instructions and carefully followed each step of the planting process.
These gardening activities provide rich learning experiences. Children develop their Physical Development through the fine motor skills required for digging, planting seeds, and watering plants. Their Mathematical Development is enhanced as they measure growth, count seeds, and observe patterns.
The pride our Oak Room children take in tending to the garden is truly inspiring. Like all living things, they understand that plants need care and attention to grow strong and healthy. We look forward to watching our plants grow and develop throughout the term!
