Our second Forest School adventure took place on 9th July and, again, it was an amazing day. This time, as we had morning children, all day and afternoon children the logistics were quite complex but we were helped out by Tony Turner’s Coaches who provided a coach to take some of the children to and from the venue.
On arrival at Arnos Vale our first unexpected encounter was a re-enactment of First World War soldiers, nurses and suffragettes. We were an impromptu audience for a scene of their play! This was followed by lunch and a story in Sunshine Corner where we were joined by the afternoon children and then we all wound our way to a glade in the woods where the activities started. Janine began with a game of ‘scatter’ – the children had to hide and then return at the sound of a whistle. Next the children created their own paint by mixing earth and water and experimented by painting on paper, logs and even trees! Some children then chose den building and stick collecting. On returning to the Spielman Centre area we had drinks and stories before some children returned to School on the coach.
The afternoon children made paper plate masks and collected different leaves on our circular walk. Next, we had drinks and snacks, which included fresh peas to pod from our Nursery garden. After an opportunity to talk about our discoveries and listen to ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ story, it was home time. Another stimulating day of fun and exploration at Forest School, let’s hope we can repeat it soon.
A big thank you to Janine (our co-ordinator) and team, our volunteers and staff, Tony Turner and our driver, Morgan, and, lastly, our amazing children who embraced a host of new experiences at Forest School. [written by Mrs Curry].
