Parents strongly urged to send objections to appeal

Further to our news article earlier this week (click here), a petition is available at Reception for you to sign. Alternatively, if you wish to send in individual objections, please find below suggested wording you may wish to use:

“To The Planning Inspectorate

Ref. W/17/3167991 Avonbank Feeder Road Bristol BS2 0TH

I wish to object to the proposal to site 48 bio-diesel generators and infrastructure 200 metres from my child’s nursery school, in the heart of Bristol.

  • This application has already been rejected twice by Bristol City Council, in a democratic process.
  • Diesel generators – even burning ‘bio diesel’- increase the levels of fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 pollution).
  • Ultrafine particles can cause lung damage, cancer, and heart attacks, and stunt the physical development of children.
  • Bristol’s average levels of PM 2.5 already exceed the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended threshold – and our Nursery School is already in an air quality management zone.
  • Bristol Policy DM14 states ‘Development that will have an unacceptable impact on health and wellbeing will not be permitted’.

It is my view that this development will increase the level of pollution and have an unacceptable impact on health and wellbeing for the parents and children who use our school and for the residents of nearby Lawrence Hill.

If this development is allowed it will set a dangerous precedent for future development in Bristol and will run against the democratic decision of Bristol City Council and the express wishes of many hundreds of parents and other residents who have objected to this harmful proposal.

I ask that the Planning Inspectorate respect our local democracy and our children’s wellbeing by rejecting this appeal.

Our children’s health is a priority for our city. This proposal is the wrong solution in the wrong place. ”
