Growing for gold

We are delighted to announce that our beautiful garden was awarded the Bristol in Bloom Learning Through Gardening 2018 Gold Award (2nd).  As well as a certificate we were presented with £40 voucher to spend at a garden centre.  The judges said:

St Philip’s Marsh Nursery School ~ Gold 2nd … encouraging children’s awareness of their natural surroundings”

The Judges said “The gardening ethos continues to be developed by this school, which now includes children aged 2 years, giving them a good start in learning about nature and plants.  The varied outdoor spaces ensure that any stress is relieved by the natural environment.  The teachers and parents are highly motivated to create a safe and inspiring outdoor space which is also used for many different events – a Royal Wedding Picnic dressing up as prince and princesses; an African/Caribbean Day complete with music and food.  Parents raise funds, and one in particular raised £650 by running a marathon.  The caretaker plants and cares for the hanging baskets that make a welcoming entrance for families and visitors and is also pro-active in obtaining donations.  Photographic diaries with the children’s comments and notes of their progress are an excellent record of their time at this school.
